A LONG CHALK is a collection of twelve short stories and poems written by David Armstrong over the past 50 years. It has been produced, published and illustrated by Conrad Armstrong.
"If there is a theme to this little book it is, perhaps inevitably, ‘Time’: Time that is personal and Time that is universal. The collection is book-ended by two pieces – On Eggardon and Pioneer 10 – which are contrasting contemplations on the passage of time. Most of the other pieces arise from memories of people and places – or even of single moments. Two of the poems – Lending Rites and Escapement – offer rather different takes on mortality; itself a subject seldom absent for very long from the thoughts of a man in his seventies."
